As we see a spike in COVID-19 cases larger than what we saw in the spring, the Center for Disease Control has offered more guidance on how to slow the spread. For business owners and property managers, that means taking extra precautions to protect customers, employees, residents, and other visitors to your building.
CDC Recommendations:
Individuals can take steps to slow spread of COVID-19, including:
- Staying at least 6 ft away from others, whenever possible,
- Wearing a mask that covers your mouth and node.
- Washing hands often with soap and water, or hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol when soap and water are not available.
- Avoid crowds and closed indoor spaces with people outside your household.
- Stay home and isolate yourself when sick.
- Disinfect high-touch surfaces and areas often.
For businesses, recommendations also include the following:
- Provide training for employees on enhanced cleaning procedures and worker protection policies, including the proper way to wear and maintain PPE and on the hazards of cleaning chemicals.
- Educate workers on safety practices and how to recognize the symptoms of COVID-19. Provide instructions on what to do if they are exposed to the virus or if they develop symptoms.
- Consider using portable HEPA filtration systems and ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) as a supplemental technique to inactivate potential airborne virus in the upper-room air of common occupied spaces.
